SikaCeram®-210 SMP 2010

PREMIUM GRADE CEMENT-BASED TILE ADHESIVE FOR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR APPLICATION

SikaCeram®-210 SMP 2010 is a premium grade, polymer modified adhesive that is ideal for interior & exterior applications in residential and commercial work areas. It is specially formulated with low shrinkage and non-horizontal slump properties, making it ideal for installation of high quality tiles on floor and walls. SikaCeram®-210 SMP 2010 has a C2TE classification when tested in accordance to BS ISO 13007-1:2014

  • The extended open time of 30 min provides greater fixing efficiency over larger areas, therefore increasing productivity.
  • Its anti-slip property enables easy and fast installation of tiles on walls in both interior and exterior applications.

Usage

  • Can be used on both walls and floors, in interior and exterior applications.
  • Can be used to fix tiles onto concrete, cement renders/screeds, blockwork, rendered brickwork and compatible waterproofing membranes.
  • SikaCeram®-210 SMP 2010 is recommended for the fixing of all types of ceramic, mosaic, fully vitrified, porcelain, terracotta, slate, quarry, natural stone, granite and marble tiles.
 
  • When SikaCeram®-210 SMP 2010 is modified with SikaLatex®-751, it enhances its performance and the system may be used to fix tiles onto facades and  screeded/rendered surfaces and to fix tiles in immersed situations (such as swimming pools, spas and similar areas).

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

  • All surface must be structurally sound, dry, clean and free from movement, oil, grease, wax, curing compounds and other loose or contaminating materials.
  • Painted surfaces must be scabbled / abraded to expose at least 80 % of the original substrate.
  • Newly rendered / screeded surfaces must be allowed to cure for at least 7 days and have a wood float finish.
  • Old rendered / screeded surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned prior to tiling and have a wood float finish.
  • New concrete must be allowed to cure for 6 weeks and should have a wood float finish.
  • Steel trowel finished concrete must be acid etched or mechanically abraded prior to tiling.
  • Old concrete surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned prior to tiling. Make sure all release agents are removed from concrete surfaces, especially on tilt-up slabs.
  • All surfaces, particularly porous surfaces should initially be primed/sealed using Sikalastic®-500 Acrylic Primer AP.
 

MIXING

Add SikaCeram®-210 SMP 2010 to a bucket of clean water mixing constantly until a thick creamy consistency is achieved. Allow the mixture to stand for 5 - 10 minutes, remix, then use the adhesive.

APPLICATION

  • Spread the adhesive onto the substrate using either a 6 mm x 6 mm to 12 mm x 12 mm notched trowel for wall tiling, or a 12 mm x 12 mm to
  • 20 mm x 20 mm notched trowel for floor tiling. The choice of the trowel should be governed by the size of the tiles, depth of knobs, grooves or ridges on the back of the tiles and the evenness of the substrate.
  • Spread approximately 1.2 - 1.5 m² at one time. Ensure that the adhesive is wet when the tiles are laid and tapped into position to ensure positive contact with the adhesive.
  • Ensure there are no voids under the tiles.
  • It is important to butter coat the back of the tiles to improve adhesion and avoid hollowness especially for large format tiles and tiles with grooves and ridges.
  • In cases where the tile has no or very low water absorption rate, or where the the back of tile has been pre-coated with an impervious film that may cause debonding, an adhesion promoter/primer can be applied.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be mechanically removed.
