SikaCeram®-255 SMP EVO

(former Davco® SMP EVO)

PREMIUM GRADE, FLEXIBLE, CEMENT-BASED TILE ADHESIVE (C2S1E)

SikaCeram®-255 SMP EVO is a premium grade, flexible, tile adhesive for fixing of vitrified, porcelain, monocuttura, marble, slate and ceramic tiles.

  • Its anti-slip property enables easy installation of tiles on walls and floors in both interior and exterior applications.

Usage

Used for external pavers, tiles or stones subject to traffic. For tiling in modular construction methods such as PPVC, PBU. Installation of tiles on various substrates: drywall, concrete, cement render, concrete blockwork and rendered brickwork. It is applicable for both interior and exterior applications.

Application steps

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, clean and free from movement, oil, grease, wax and other contaminants. Painted surfaces must be scabbled to expose at least 75 % of clean surface. Expansion joints coinciding with joints in the substrate should be incorporated at the design stage and must not be tiled over. 

Newly rendered surfaces must be allowed to cure for at least 7 days. Very porous surfaces should be primed with Sikalastic®-500 Acrylic Primer AP or other Sika primers. Steel trowel finished concrete must be acid-etched or wire-brushed prior to tiling.

 

MIXING

Add SikaCeram®-255 SMP EVO to a container with the recommended amount of clean water, mix constantly until a thick and creamy consistency is achieved.

Allow the mixture to stand for 10 minutes, remix, then use the adhesive.

APPLICATION

  • Spread the adhesive onto the substrate using either a 6 mm x 6 mm to 12 mm x 12 mm notched trowel for wall tiling, or a 12 mm x 12 mm to 20 mm x 20 mm notched trowel for floor tiling. The choice of the trowel should be governed by the size of the tiles, depth of knobs, grooves or ridges on the back of the tiles and the evenness of the substrate.
  • A 6 mm x 6 mm notched trowel can be used to lay mosaic tiles.
  • Spread approximately 1.2 - 1.5 m² at one time.
  • Ensure that there are no voids under the tiles.
  • It is important to butter coat the back of the tiles to improve adhesion and avoid hollowness especially for large format tiles and tiles with grooves and ridges. In cases where the tile has no or very low water absorption rate, or where the the back of tile has been pre-coated with an impervious film that may cause debonding, an adhesion promoter/primer can be applied.


Grouting after tile installation
Grouting should preferably be carried out at least 24 hours after the completion of tiling.

For grout joints up to 4 mm wide use SikaCeram®-658 Coloured Grout CFG.
