SikaCeram®-277 Rapidbond

RAPID SETTING FLEXIBLE CEMENT-BASED TILE ADHESIVE 

SikaCeram®-277 Rapidbond is a single component rapid-setting flexible tile adhesive for thin bed installation of tiles for locations where the tiled area needs to be put into service as quickly as possible. SikaCeram®-277 Rapidbond is classified as C2S1FE when tested in accordance to BS EN 12004-2 : 2017.

  • Bonds well on concrete, cement render, concrete blocks, rendered brickwork.
  • Bonds well on previously hacked surfaces and on surfaces where a cement based patched mortar has been used.
  • Suitable in areas of intermittent of continuous dampness.
  • Trafficable after 4.5 hours (depends on the temperature).
  • No pre-soaking of tiles required.
  • Water resistant.

Usage

  • Fixing of ceramic, monocuttura, vitrified, mosaic and quarry tiles, slate, marble and all types of natural stone.
  • Direct fixing over existing floor and wall tiles.
  • Used in place of epoxy grouts for bedding and grouting if a high strength fast setting adhesive is required.

Application steps

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, clean and free from movement and any contaminants.

Newly rendered surface must be allowed to cure for at least 48 hours prior to tiling.


Old surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned to ensure that an acceptable substrate for adhesion is prepared. Failure to comply with the above surface preparation techniques may result in lower adhesion characteristics and possible delamination.


Uneven substrates may be repaired or levelled off using Sika repair products/systems, e.g. Sikafloor®-2400 APCC, Sikafloor®-412 Level FR.

MIXING

Mix SikaCeram®-277 Rapidbond to liquid component, mixing continuously until a lump-free, creamy consistency is achieved.
 

APPLICATION

Spread the adhesive onto the substrate using a notched trowel. Size of notched trowel should be governed by the depth of knobs, grooves or ridges on the back of the evenness of the substrate.

The minimum thickness of mortar bed shall be 3 mm after beating in. For heavy duty usage, the thickness shall be minimum 5 - 6 mm.

Do not soak backing of tiles prior to applying mortar. Dampen dry backings only as needed.

Float the mortar with pressure over area no greater than can be covered with tile while mortar remains plastic. Press firmly and immediately  with a twisting action onto the freshly combed mortar, tap and beat tile into place to obtain 100% contact with tile and mortar bed with no voids in the mortar.

It is important to butter coat the back of the tiles to improve adhesion and avoid hollowness especially for large format tiles and tiles with grooves and ridges.

In cases where the tile has no or very low water absorption rate, or where the the back of tile has been pre-coated with an impervious film that may cause debonding, an adhesion promoter/primer e.g. SikaLatex®-1000 can be applied.


Grouting after tile installation
Wait at least 4 hours before grouting with SikaCeram®-658 Coloured Grout CFG or with similar material.
