BACKING ROD FOR FIRE RESISTANT JOINT SEALING

Sika® Backer Rod Fire is a circular, compressible, mineral wool based backing rod wrapped with a glass fibre yarn.

Usage

Sika® Backer Rod Fire is used as a:
  • Backing rod for fire resistant joint sealing in horizontal and vertical building structure applications
  • Backing rod in conjunction with any Sika sealant including any Sika owned brands
Please note:
  • The Product may only be used by experienced professionals.

Storage Conditions

The product must be stored in original, unopened and undamaged packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between -20 °C and +70 °C. Always refer to packaging.

Dimensions

Reference must be made to limitations regarding dimensions and configuration described in the ETA 23/0088.

The Product must be installed at a minimum compression rate of 15 %.

Strictly follow installation procedures

Strictly follow installation procedures as defined in Method Statements, application manuals and working instructions which must always be adjusted to the actual site conditions.

Preconditions

The ends of adjoining rods and at detailing locations such as corners must be in tight contact with each other to maintain maximum fire resistance.

  1. Place the oversized backer rod into the joint and push with a blunt tool to tightly fit against the joint sides at the required depth.
  2. Seal the joint with a Sika® sealant. Refer to individual Product Data Sheets.
