Sikalastic®-100 SA Tape
Self-adhesive polymeric rubberised roofing tape with woven polyester facing
Sikalastic®-100 SA Tape is a self-adhesive polymeric rubberised tape with a plastic release liner on the underside and a woven polyester facing. It enhances the strength and durability of Sikalastic® roofing and waterproofing membranes at joints and angle changes.
- Self-adhesive
- No primer required for many substrates
- Fleece facing provides good resin/coating adhesion
- Good elongation to accommodate thermal and structural movement
- Increases joint strength and durability
- Conforms to substrate contours and flashing details
Usage
Reinforcement of joints:- Between cover boards
- Between plywood deck panels
- On concrete roofing
- And seams in metal roofing

SUBSTRATE QUALITY
The substrate quality must achieve the same requirements as the Sikalastic® roofing and waterproofing membrane product that will be applied. Refer to the appropriate Product Data Sheet.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
- The substrate preparation including any repairs will be the same as for the Sikalastic® roofing and waterproofing membrane product that will be applied. Refer to the appropriate Product Data Sheet.
- Priming is not normally required on concrete. If concrete is absorbent use Sikalastic® Primer to seal the surface.
- Solvent wipe prepared metal flanges, metal roofing joints and seams with acetone or denatured alcohol.
APPLICATION
IMPORTANT
Do not apply to a porous or damp surface where moisture vapour transmission will occur during application and curing.
IMPORTANT
Remove the adhesive release liner before applying.
Non-moving (static) Joints
Note: During application, air bubbles and wrinkles must be avoided if practically possible.
- Unroll a short length of tape from the roll.
- Remove 100 to 150 mm of the adhesive release liner from the underside of the tape.
- Apply this length of tape onto the substrate, centrally over the joint, extending a minimum of 30 to 50 mm over each side of the joint.
- Press the applied tape onto the substrate with a silicone / rubber hand-held seam pressure roller.
- Continue to apply the tape by unrolling and removing the adhesive release liner until the length of joint has been covered.
- Press the tape onto the substrate with the pressure roller.
- Apply additional pressure with the pressure roller to the complete length of the applied tape to activate the bonding process. The firmer the pressure applied, the faster and stronger the bond.
Remedial repairs and removal of air bubbles and wrinkles
Remedial repairs:
- Cut away damaged tape area with a sharp utility knife.
- Apply a new layer of tape over the damaged area, extending to a minimum of 30 to 50 mm beyond the damaged area edges.
- Press the new tape layer with a silicone/rubber hand-held seam pressure roller.
- Apply additional pressure with the pressure roller to the new tape layer to activate the bonding process.
Air bubble removal-piercing:
- Pierce air bubble with a sharp needle.
- Force out the air by applying pressure over the bubbled area using a silicone/rubber hand-held seam pressure roller.
Air bubble removal-cutting:
- Use a utility knife to cut the bubbled area.
- Press the tape back into place.
- Apply an additional layer of tape over the cut, extending to a minimum of 30 to 50 mm over the cut line in all directions.
- Press the new tape layer with a silicone/rubber hand-held seam pressure roller.
- Apply additional pressure with the pressure roller to the new tape layer to activate the bonding process.
Removing wrinkles:
- Use a utility knife to cut away the bunched-up (wrinkled) section of tape.
- Press the cut edges back into place.
- Apply a new layer of tape over the removed area, extending to a minimum of 30 to 50 mm beyond the removed area edges.
- Press the new tape layer with a silicone/rubber hand-held seam pressure roller.
- Apply additional pressure with the pressure roller to the new tape layer to activate the bonding process.
Sikalastic® Coating application
IMPORTANT
Make sure all the tape is coated to prevent UV degradation.
Note:Priming of the tape is not required.
- Apply a Sikalastic® coating onto the clean, dry tape surface within 72 hours of the tape application.
